Established in 1959, the African Art Centre, based in Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal is one of the oldest non-profit companies.
For the past 60 years it has been a beacon of hope for disadvantaged artists and crafters. The objectives of the Centre are:
- to provide an outlet for training, promoting and selling artists and crafters work.
This results in unique African products of a high quality and ethical provenance.
Works include, beadwork, ilala palm baskets, ceramics, paintings, woodcut prints, wood sculptures, telephone wire and embroidery. The Centre working with the crafters continuously develop the hard wire and jewellery ranges in colour and design to stay relevant to fashion trends and customer requirements. The fine art training and development has produced some of South Africa's finest artists. The master potters continue age old traditional techniques, and their works, of an incredibly high standard, are valued worldwide.
