Groundcover is born from a passion for leathercraft. We specialise in original, handcrafted, genuine leather, footwear, bags, belts, and accessories. We seek to source all the materials for our products locally, and each item is handmade by our small team of artisans, in our factory in the KZN midlands. Since our inception in 1990, we have mastered the art of the stitchdown shoe method, while also added many lifestyle items to our range. We use the best quality inputs in the market, and stray away from cutting corners – for example, all our insoles are made of a veg tan leather, as opposed to a microfibre board that most other manufacturers use. We also offer resoles and repairs on all our shoes, at cost.

We are a socially conscious company and have made a concerted effort to invest in our community. Currently, 10% of our revenue is invested back in our local community and into staff welfare. We believe education is critical to the betterment of South Africa, and so subsidise all our staffs’ children’s school fees, and offer further support through our onsite classroom, support of extra mural activities etc. As a proponent of SMMEs, we have also supported 20+ local entrepreneurs develop their own businesses including craftsmen, taxi businesses, builders etc.
