Let’s get creative about Father’s Day!

As the saying goes, a father is his daughter’s first love and his son’s first hero – so what do you give a man (that often already has everything) to let him know how much he means to his family on that one special day reserved for dads each year

Father's Day (celebrated on the third Sunday in June in South Africa) originally hails from the US, where it is said to have started from a memorial service held for a large group of men who died in a mining accident in Monongah, West Virginia in 1907.

Today, families around the world use the occasion to celebrate fatherhood and paternal bonds. And, while all dads cherish those handmade cards and lovingly crafted gifts their children make them over the years, it is nice to be able to spoil him on this special day with something, he’d really like.

But, let’s be honest, unless you’ve got big bucks to spend, men are generally difficult to buy gifts for. So, if you’re tired of giving him handkerchiefs and “the world’s best dad” mugs for his birthday, Christmas and Father’s Day, why not think out of the box this year and give him a gift that shows you’ve put some thought into it.

What has he always spoken about but never quite got around to doing? Why sign not him up for an experience (like bungee jumping, if he’s the adventurous type); or a cooking course; or guitar lessons? Anything that says “we’ve really thought about what you would like” is sure to be appreciated.

Here are a few ideas from SARCDA exhibitors to get those creative juices flowing:
