Art in the Forest ‘s signature ceramics are contemporary, classical and very proudly South African. Our brand Forestware, is expanding locally and internationally. Master Potter Anthony Shapiro who heads up the Art in the Forest project conceptualizes Forestware. Besides this studio line, the store is carefully curated with a handful of other South African ceramists work.
We work out of a1950’s original Bauhaus building in Cecelia Forest, off Constantia Nek. This building was donated to Art in the Forest to be used as a centre of ceramic excellence, which encompasses skills development, training and free pottery classes to children that have no access to any form of creativity.
Apart from producing our Forestware brand, we also take on commissions from decorators and retailers. We offer a minimum of 4 exhibitions per year, pottery classes, outreach programmes and workshops.
Art in the forest's primary missions are job creation through our mentorship program and giving children a place to experience creativity and joy. As a commercially successful potter Anthony understands product development and this leads to our artists producing product that will work in a retail environment. Art in the Forest gives the artists we mentor a space to grow their creativity, develop a discerning eye and build self-esteem by understanding good design, marketability and the ability to present a coherent range to the public.
