Busisiwe makes ceramic pots with terracotta clay combined with natural clay dug from a vacant plot of land near her house in ILovo area in Durban.
Busisiwe developed an interest in ceramic pottery making while working for a company called Tholubongwe where she produced dinner plates, cups, sauces using slip casting. She later had an opportunity to undertake a short ceramic design course in India. On her return, she learnt about the renown South African ceramicist such as Clive Sithole and the Nala Family, this knowledge inspired her so much that she lost interest in slip casting, her new desire was hand coiled ceramic pottery.
Busisiwe later joined the BAT Centre visual arts programme facilitated by Newboy Dlamini where she learnt to hand coil ceramic pots. Since then, Busisiwe has been producing hand coiled pots and has also been mentored by Clive Sithole.
In year 2014, Busisiwe joined the African Art Centre Velobala outreach programme which introduced her to jewellery design in order to enhance her skills as an artist and a designer. With a passion to become a versatile artist, Busisiwe decided to enrol for a degree in Jewellery Design at the Durban University of Technology. Even though she is studying Jewellery Design fulltime, Busisiwe continues to pursue her passion as a hand coiling ceramicist.
